Capital Campaign
Camp Barnabas has a strong reputation for high quality programming for people with special needs. To uphold this we must continually examine, improve, enlarge and strengthen our programs and facilities. The generosity of our many donors allows us to provide the best experience possible for our campers, because only the best will do!
Currently, the only project on our table is an enlarged Health Center. Following the national exposure from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition visit in 2005, our camper population exploded. Our first priority was to build better, more efficient housing for these important people. Those 21 new cabins were built and in use by summer 2008.
But serving a group of people with special needs and/or chronic disease means meeting whatever medical needs they may have during their stay here. Increased camper numbers created a bottleneck in our current medical facility and we are now raising funds to build a new health center. The 7,000 square foot facility will allow more efficient access for camper treatments, such as IV therapy, respiratory therapy, g-tube feedings and catheterization/bowel management therapies. We believe no child should miss out on the fun of camp because they're waiting in line at the health center.
The new cabins allowed us to expand programs year-round and we plan to do the same with the new health facility, offering it as a free community health clinic September through May. This service will be run through a local organization and serve area residents without access to affordable health care. We are excited about this chance to be a good steward and a good neighbor.
Target date for completion of this facility is 2011 if funds are sourced in 2009-2010. Currently, one-fourth of our projected cost has been paid or pledged.
