May Featured Camper: Rebekah

May 30, 2018 | Featured Camper

Rebekah’s story is a beautiful picture of God’s heart for the ‘least of these.’
He has redeemed her life from a hopeless situation and placed her into a
family that adores her, and now at a camp where she is loved
and embraced for exactly who God made her to be.
-Lori, Rebekah’s Mom

Rebekah was born in China. At age two, she was found abandoned and wandering in a city park. She was then taken to an orphanage where she was given a name, a birthdate, and a diagnosis of Down Syndrome.

Rebekah’s future remained uncertain until a US adoption agency started an initiative to find homes for children just like her. In April 2015, Rebekah’s mom traveled to China and met Rebekah for the first time to bring her home.

I knew the moment I met her that she was an incredibly special little girl and that she would change everything about our family. She overflows with joy and excitement and approaches life with a perspective we could all learn from. She loves her family fiercely.” -Lori, Rebekah’s Mom

Rebekah and her sister received the opportunity to come to Camp Barnabas last year, and the experience was nothing short of magical.

Rebekah arriving to Camp Barnabas

I choked back tears at the reception my girls received at Camp Barnabas. Both were abandoned by their parents and were unwanted by the world, but when they walked into the gates of Barnabas they were welcomed with open arms. They were cheered on. They were celebrated! Rebekah’s eyes twinkled with delight… almost as if living a dream. Maybe it is a dream, Rebekah! A dream come true!” -Lori, Rebekah’s Mom
