December Featured Camper: Seth

Sep 28, 2018 | Featured Camper

We can’t wait to introduce you to our December Featured Camper, Seth. He’s a sweet, joyful, 10-year-old who’s been brought up to work hard and play hard.

We got the opportunity to sit down with Seth and his parents (Doug and Stephanie) and they told us a little bit about his life, both at camp and at home:

Question: How long has Seth been coming to camp?

Answer: Two years.

Question: What is Seth’s diagnosis?

Answer: Down Syndrome.

Question: What is Seth’s favorite part of camp?

Answer: Swimming in the pool and jumping off the diving board. Seth learned to swim when he was only 4 years old!

Question: What is Seth’s biggest goal in life?

Answer: Seth wants to work at a bakery when he turns 16, and later on, he wants to buy a house and get married.

Question: What are some challenges Seth has faced, and how does he overcome them?

Answer: Seth was raised as a typical child, going to school with other kids his age. Despite his challenges in reading and writing, Seth has only been held back one grade, and is currently in the third grade. Seth’s parents tell us that he loves camp so much, he crushes cans all year to get money, and after he’s saved up enough, he gets to come to camp.

Question: What was your proudest moment as Seth’s parents?

Answer: There wasn’t one particular moment that stands out, just watching him grow his personality and his love for people is incredible. His extra chromosome is called “love.”

We hope Seth’s story inspires you to work hard and share your love with every person you meet, just like Seth does!
