Meet Jarrett

Jarrett has been a part of the Camp Barnabas family for six incredible years. Known for his boundless enthusiasm and adventurous spirit, he embraces every moment at camp with a smile, a laugh, and a fearless heart. From soaring down the zipline, his absolute favorite, to building friendships that last far beyond summer, Jarrett truly embodies the joy and spirit of Camp Barnabas.

“I’ve kept in touch with most of my missionaries," said Jarrett, "They make me feel good, especially when I meet other people in electric wheelchairs because then I can race them.”

Camp is also a place where Jarrett has deepened his faith. “The love that you experience at camp, you sense that it’s God’s love,” he explained.

"I’ve always been a believer and gone to church all my life, but the first time I ever felt the closest to God was the first time I went to camp."

“After that, I started reading my Bible on a regular basis. Up until I was maybe 12, I would hear the word at church, and I would pray to God at night but that would be about it,” he continued.

When asked what he loves most about camp, Jarrett said, “Honestly just the fact that there’s nothing I can’t do at camp. All my friends at school can do that on a regular basis but when you’re in a wheelchair it’s a little different.”

“My life would not be the same without Camp," said Jarrett,

"I thank God for it a lot, because it’s a huge blessing.”

Every activity at Camp Barnabas is carefully adapted so each Camper can fully participate. Jarrett’s story is a shining example of the camp’s mission to foster joy, inclusion, and faith for all.

This fall, Jarrett was a guest of honor at Camp Barnabas’ Glamping for Camping fundraiser, where he had the exciting role of drawing the raffle winner. The night held an unforgettable surprise as the Permobil Foundation, The Nelson Foundation, and anonymous donors gifted Jarrett a brand-new custom wheelchair valued at $58,000. Numotion partnered with his family to help them adjust to the new chair and provide ongoing support.

“I never dreamed I would have a brand-new wheelchair just for me,” Jarrett said, pointing to the zero miles on his chair.

He’s already named his new wheelchair Barnabas, nicknamed Barnaby, and can’t wait to show it to everyone. The joy on Jarrett’s face and the generosity of supporters reminded everyone what Camp Barnabas is all about: love, compassion, and inclusion for all.
