Camp Barnabas is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its newest adventure: an all-accessible zipline designed to bring exhilarating outdoor fun to campers of all abilities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in Purdy, Missouri.
“This zipline is more than just a ride—it’s a symbol of adventure, confidence, and joy,” says Camp Director Brenda Brandt. “We’re proud to continue expanding our adaptive recreation offerings to ensure every camper can experience the thrill of a zipline in a safe and supportive environment.”
The three-story zipline was custom-built for the unique needs of Camp Barnabas campers. While it includes traditional stairs, it also has an electric winch that lifts individuals using a specialized adaptive chair. Every part of the system, from the secure straps to the transfer setup, was created to provide a safe, smooth, and comfortable experience for all campers.
“Our new zipline accommodates four people on the zipline at once, allowing a camper and their volunteer missionary or cabin mates to soar down together. Our goal is for every activity to be inclusive so that people can experience the joys of camp together,” says Brandt. “Ziplines can be intimidating, but riding with friends gives an extra layer of support and incredible shared memories.”
“Beyond a fun week, we believe camp provides so many vital experiences, such as friendship, outdoor adventure, physical activity, and new challenges, all of which provide confidence to campers. We know our campers leave with great memories, ones that often serve as catalysts for personal growth and confidence. Those experiences are life-changing.”
The new $250,000 zipline, built by Challenge Quest, was provided in part by a grant from the Moving Missouri Forward Foundation as well as private donors. The new activity joins a host of other inclusive amenities at Camp Barnabas, including a water park, lake, petting zoo, adaptive sports, and sensory-friendly programming.
Veteran camper Mallory Stone will cut the ceremonial ribbon. Her role highlights Camp Barnabas’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and chronic illnesses through life-changing experiences.
